As you may be aware, our insurance companies recently settled a dispute that has been pending for over five years concerning our sale of biofuel blends. Peterson’s Oil, and its insurance carriers, defended the claims made by a small group of former customers and their attorneys. In 2024, one of the insurance companies made the decision to settle the dispute for their coverage years. Recently, the remaining insurance carriers decided to settle the remaining years of this dispute to end a prolonged period of litigation. We want to address any questions you might have and reassure you of our unwavering dedication to quality service and environmental responsibility.

Years ago, when the idea of reaching net-zero was just emerging, we made the conscious decision to incorporate higher levels of biofuel in our products, believing it to be a step in the right direction. Today, the same practices for which we faced criticism are now widely accepted and biofuel is sold by almost every supplier. Many surrounding towns and states have mandates and other programs encouraging the sale of biofuels.

Our decision to incorporate biofuel has been supported by rigorous testing and real-world experience. We have proudly served thousands of homes, going beyond what was traditionally offered, to provide a product we truly believed in—and still do. In fact, we use the same fuel in our homes, trusting in its quality and environmental benefits.

All of this caused the company, and our insurance carriers to defend the lawsuit.  After many years of defending, our insurance carriers decided to settle.  Clearly, this is not an admission of wrongdoing but rather a strategic move to avoid even more prolonged litigation. We also see it as a benefit to our customers who qualify for recovery from the settlement and urge you all to participate.

We recognize the importance of transparency and choice. While biofuel is becoming a standard, we respect that some may prefer traditional fuel options.
